Export your print file to PDF

A PDF usually preserves dimensions, fonts, and placement more reliably than an editable source file. Use a high-quality print setting and always open the exported PDF again before uploading it.

PDF

Before exporting

  • Choose the correct final size for the product you are ordering.
  • Extend edge-to-edge backgrounds into the required bleed.
  • Keep text and logos safely inside the safe area; exact values can vary by product.
  • Check page order, front and back, and any blank pages.

Steps for each design application

Microsoft Word

Set the page size and margins first. Then choose Save As or Export, select PDF, and use the publishing and printing option. Check fonts, page breaks, and shifted images.

Adobe Illustrator

Set the document size and bleed. Choose Save As or Save a Copy, select Adobe PDF, and include the correct artboards. Add printer’s marks only when the product specification requests them.

Adobe InDesign

Choose File, Export, and Adobe PDF (Print). Export individual pages rather than spreads unless the product specification says otherwise. Include the document bleed and inspect the PDF.

Final PDF check

  • Open the PDF outside the application used to create it.
  • Check size, orientation, page count, and page order.
  • Zoom in on small text, logos, thin lines, and images.
  • Check that backgrounds extend correctly and important content is not too close to the trim line.
  • Preferably upload this checked, unprotected PDF.
